Phase 3 of Downtown Streetscape Is Now Underway
Lafayette’s Downtown Streetscape Project, which began in 2015, is entering its third phase of construction. Eight phases are planned, overall.
Phases 1 and 2 have already seen significant improvements to stretches of Main Street from 4th Street to 9th Street that enhance the experience for residents by enlarging sidewalks to allow for al fresco dining, making parking easier and providing updated benches, bike racks and beautiful greenery, among other upgrades.
Phase 3, which began in late April 2020, will occur in three sequences. (See image below for anticipated construction schedule.)
The first sequence will see improvements to both sides of 10 Street between Ferry and Main as well as the northwest corner of the intersection of 10th and Main Street. Construction crews will be present starting April 24, and the improvements are expected to be completed sometime in late-June.
Starting in late June, the second sequence of Phase 3 will turn its attention to the south side of Main Street between 10th and 11th Street (the north side of this block has already been renovated during an earlier phase); the west side of 11th Street from Ferry to Main; and the southwest corner of the intersection of 10th and Main Street. Improvements to these sections are expected to be completed by mid-August.
Slightly overlapping with the second sequence, the final sequence of Phase 3 will begin in early July and see work done to both sides of 10th Street again—this time the block between Main Street and Columbia—and completed by late September.
The final touches of surfacing and striping the roads and installing trees will happen to all Phase 3 areas from late September through November.
Altogether, Phase 3 of the Streetscape Project is expected to be finished by December 1 of this year.
