Project Update (4/18/16-4/29/16) & April Meeting Recap

Crews have been busy this week in the Upper Main and Phase 1 sections of the Main Street Streetscape project. In the Upper Main section this week we saw sidewalks and paver bands poured in preparation for brick pavers next week. This week in Phase 1 (between 4th and 5th on the south side) tree wells were excavated and curb work began, with the rest of the concrete work occurring next week.

The monthly business and property owner project update meeting was this week as well. For more information, the agenda and slides are attached at the bottom.

Topics discussed include:
– Signing up for automatic updates via this website in the right hand sidebar on the News page
– Toolkits are still available and can be requested online
– Updated phasing map (pdf attached below) reflecting the next sections to be worked on
• Phase 2– 4th–5th Street (North Side) & 5th Street (North of Main)
• Phase 3– 5th Street (South of Main, except Bistro 501 corner/sidewalk)

We also introduced a few special guests that have come back to Lafayette to visit the city. Lafayette founder William Digby and his companion–the city’s namesake–Marquis de Lafayette. Not only have these two gentlemen returned to discover downtown Lafayette and what has been going on since they were last here, but they also stopped by the Main Street Streetscape press conference. To see what happened, and join this dynamic duo as they roam this great city of ours exploring all that downtown has to offer, check out their video series The Adventures of Will and Marq.

Check back often or sign up for updates to stay informed about the project and what’s coming next!
